Tips for Small Bathroom Designs

There is a growing trend for single and young professionals to move into compact units like condominiums and apartment housing. The commute to and from work has taken a toll to individuals who live in the suburbs. Urban living is currently tantamount to living in high-rise buildings into studio or one-bedroom units. These units are so small that the space allotted to bathroom barely meets the minimum requirements.
A person whose personal bathroom is small would naturally want a bigger modern bathroom. However, the constraint in space makes renovation or expansion next to impossible. Money could also be an issue since it is not cheap to tear down walls and relocate plumbing and sanitary pipes. However, there are some ways a condominium or apartment dweller can do to make his bathroom seem larger.
The first thing that you should do is think of a motif for your bathroom. If there is no particular theme that inspires you, there is still a need to choose a color palette and patterns. Choose light and neutral colors as they will make your compact bathroom roomier. As with the walls, the color of the flooring should be of light color too. You can opt for tans, beiges , light grays and light blues. Bold and loud colors can be used as accents. If you must use patterns and prints, choose verticals and small prints.
If you the space allows and you have the resources, opt for a skylight or additional window to let in more natural light. If this is not possible add pin lights on intended spots in the bathroom. Try installing a wall lamp on the wall back of the water closet or under the suspended bathroom cabinets. You’d be amazed at the soft concentrated glow from such spots. Yellow lights are warm. White lights are modern and intense – perfect for the modern bathroom.
Choose a pedestal lavatory fitted with sink faucets that match the character of the lavatory. Do away with countertop lavatory as it will occupy more space. Opt for a wall mounted vanity to save more space. Hang a mirror on one wall to add more depth to the room.
If your budget allows it, install shower enclosures of frosted glass or tempered clear glass. This would make the bathroom appear larger as the glass shower enclosure would reflect more light.
Consider locating the bathroom cabinet out in the hallway. This would dramatically increase the actual size of your bathroom without having to knock down walls. Look for extra storage in the bedroom or in the kitchen.
With a little imagination and inspiration you can change the mood and vibes of your bathroom without spending a ton.
